Saturn's Sixty-Four Word Web Strategy
August 23, 1999

Matt Carmichael of Advertising Age did a cybercritique of Saturn's website and reports that Saturn is in the middle of a campaign for their new L-Series model with lots of advertising, postcards and banner ads all pointing people to saturn.com.

But what do visitors to saturn.com find?
A large graphic with a sixty-four word "under construction" message. So Saturn has an entire advertising campaign pointing to saturn.com and they've placed a message explaining why the site isn't ready and to excuse the "cyber dust."

JavaScript frustration, not navigation
The "under construction" message is just a preview of the problems with saturn.com. Just look at those red and black circles used for site navigation using JavaScript rollovers. It's a mystery to find what you're looking for and they can't resist making it even more convoluted by nesting another level of links for some circles.
