newmedia.com: a DHTML revolution?
January 31, 2000
Hypermedia Communications announced last September they were ceasing publication of their NewMedia magazine to focus on building a new website to be unveiled two months later. A few months late, newmedia.com is back on the Web and with enough DHTML tricks to go along with each of the numerous taglines they are using to describe their site. It's amazing to look at the simple site they developed for their NewMedia magazine and compare it to the new Web-only site. And just look at the buzzwords they are using to describe the site: cutting-edge information services, super-cool, 100% rich media, information-rich, Web-based information service, information "buckets", dynamic interactive rich content, rich-media walk-throughs, proprietary customization technology, innovative user interface that uses DHTML and moveable windows, time-based advertising.

Response to Beta users of newmedia.com
And newmedia.com doesn't fail in the mandatory "you either love us or you hate us" explanation of the redesign: "Change is always met with resistance, and our rebirth has been no exception. The responses have been overwhelming in quantity as well as in sentiment. You gotta love us or hate us--otherwise you just haven't met us." Catherine Bacon, Assistant Editor for Technology at newmedia.com.
Hypermedia's 10-Q Filing
"We are redesigning our Web site to provide the Internet-driven business professional with a rich and rewarding daily experience. If the look and feel functionality of our redesigned Web site is not attractive to the Internet professional community or if our content is not perceived as being interesting and compelling we may be unable to attract sufficient users necessary to generate revenues to achieve profitability."
